Lesson 2: Breathing under stress

An interesting, historical discussion regarding how I taught students my early understanding of  the “OldWay” movement philosophy.

Filmed in 2014, it turns out to be a fantastic history of what I had been exploring and teaching many years ago, which I recently (2020) called “The OldWay!”.

I hadn’t given it a name, nor really understood the importance of what was referred to as “inner softness and outer strength” that was also associated with the Uechi method of breathing, during practice and under stress.

Some of my current students haven’t taken the “OldWay” seriously and for the same reasons my students years ago, didn’t feel it was important or the belief that they would eventually develop this advanced understanding and ability on their own.

My teaching philosophy has always been building confidence and independence in my students, which includes determining what is best for them in all areas of their lives, including Uechi-ryu.
